I help run OSCARS' consolidation work, which builds on the output of earlier EOSC-related projects. I also liaise between EOSC and Europe's cutting-edge photon and neutron research facilities. OSCARS will unlock ground-breaking research by bringing together isolated activities and groups, and by directly funding real change.
Composable Research Infrastructure Services in EOSC (CRISE)
Having completed his PhD from the University of Glasgow in 2000, Paul started researching data replica placement algorithms, data transfer management and (physics) metadata management over the course of some six years.
In 2007, Paul moved to Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), becoming a senior developer on the storage management software "dCache". Through this work, he has helped craft several widely deployed standards and has been involved with and ran several working groups. He has been a key contributor within several EU-funded projects with a data management focus, including being the technical director of the recent ExPaNDS project with its FAIR data focus.
Paul continues to focus on metadata, data management and more general IT-related issues both locally at DESY and, as LEAPS WG3 lead and PaNOSC co-lead, with photon and neutron facilities across Europe.
