OSCARS webinar: Building a PID Strategy for Research Projects
Calendar Event date
26 November 2026
OSCARS invites you to attend the online webinar Building a PID Strategy for Research Projects, on Thursday 26 November 2026, from 14:00 to 15:30 CET.
Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) are a key component of FAIR and Open Science, but an effective PID strategy requires more than assigning identifiers to research outputs. It involves identifying the relevant research entities, selecting appropriate and community-recognised PID systems, connecting them through rich metadata, and maintaining meaningful relationships throughout the research lifecycle.
The webinar will present the main recommendations from the OSCARS practical guide Build your own PID strategy – A practical introduction for research projects - https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.22751003 -, complemented by community perspectives and concrete implementation examples. It will bring together contributors to the guide and invited experts from the wider PID ecosystem, as well as specialists from specific research domains.
What the session will cover:
- What your project should persistently identify, and which solutions fit your needs
- Practical benefits of a coherent PID strategy, minimum implementation priorities and common pitfalls
- PID metadata and interoperability, research activity identification, and complementary approaches such as content-based identifiers
- Why PID implementation also depends on relationships, governance and community practices
Who is it for:
- Researchers
- Data stewards
- Research infrastructure staff
- Technical specialists
- Project coordinators
- Anyone interested in implementing persistent identification in research
The second part of the webinar will be dedicated to a discussion on designing a practical checklist for PID strategies, so this is a good opportunity to bring your project's practical challenges and implementation choices. A feedback session at the end will help shape future OSCARS training and guidance.
Please feel free to share this invitation with your team and colleagues.
